A dambreak flood is caused by a failure or accident of a dam that accumulates water, or an emergency solution to a critical situation on a waterworks causing an extraordinary event under the waterworks. The actual course of dam failure depends on the dam type and failure mechanism. Determining the breach hydrograph is difficult, it is determined by empirical relationships or numerical modeling, or by analogy with known cases of levee failures. The evaluation of the progress and propagation dambreak floodwave in a threatened area is currently carried out by 2D numerical modeling of continuous surface water flow. The results of this modeling are the basis for crisis planning of the integrated rescue system.
